Major contract to ship world’s largest ever TBM

Work has been under way for the past month on a shipping contract to transport the world’s largest tunnel boring machine (TBM) to support the development of a major civil construction project in Asia.

Nine shipments in total are due to carry the parts for the 17.6 metre diameter TBM to the undersea highway construction site in Hong Kong, with the first cargo – the 460MT cutter head – being the heaviest item.

Trans Global Projects, an ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 registered company, delivered the cutter head safely in mid-December, when the cargo was discharged by floating crane and landed at a private jetty for the job site.

The shipping schedule is due to be completed by July 2015.
